Not too much on the agenda today. Ariana’s school, and a small dinner crisis.

Waiting for Friends

We are trying to put Ariana in the preschool run by the local church here, in conjuction with TEARS. It’s entirely Spanish, and her teach speaks basically no English. Nicole accompanied here for a few hours on Wednesday which she did find. Today was her first day (8am – 12pm) on her own. She cried a little when we left, just like in Calgary. One of the local English ladies checked in on her after a few minutes and introduced her to a couple others. She seemed to think she was doing ok. At recess Nicole snuck over to the school to see how she was doing, just in time to see her purchasing a ice freezy with a few Pesos Nik had given her from the a local man who stops by the school at break. She didn’t get to hear if she said anything, or just pointed, but seemed to be making out ok.

At dinner, although food is available, we started to feel the pressure of not knowing what to cook and feeling like we couldn’t buy anything. It passed quickly as I built up the courage to go grab a couple things to cook, but gave us a glimpse of what it may be like for someone who just doesn’t have the money to buy food.
