Dec 25: Birthday Time

Christmas, as planned, was simple and enjoyable. We started the day with a classic pancake breakfast. For the first time since being here they were almost as good as at home. Most the day was spent hanging out at a friends house where we enjoyed good company, some card games, a bit of TV, lots of junk food, and a straightforward chicken & potato dinner. The kids opened their gifts in the afternoon and seemed to enjoy them. We presented the gifts to both of them: a block building / puzzle game and a set of molding clay. This gave us just the activity to spend a little extra quality time with the kids and help make the day memorable. Of course the birthday cake was a big hit as well (with me as well).

One surprise for us was to hear Ariana talking about Santa Claus. This is something we have never mentioned, and have even discussed with her how he is pretend. Although I know some people will find this almost blasphemous, we have set a goal to never lie or stretch the truth with our kids. Our intent is that when we say something our kids they will know without a doubt that it is true. Hopefully this will ultimately earn their respect and set an example in how to treat others.

We’ll leave you with a few pictures of the day. Feliz navidad.
