Dec 30: Parents Arrive

The excitement today was definitely picking up my Parents from Santiago. They arrived only a half hour late after a full day of travel, two stopovers and one late flight. Much easier than those traveling a week ago. We got home a little to late to visit the kids, but were able to enjoy some good Canadian chocolate before heading to bed.

I was impressed by the Airport at Santiago which is very modern looking, and has the classic moderate-climate open air layout. Although it was dark at the time, Santiago seemed like a fairly modern city.

Just prior to leaving for my parents we attended the Church’s new-years eve dinner. Because I had to leave at 9, I didn’t get to have any food, but from what I hear it was pretty good. The event included some worship songs and a few drama/skits which the kids loved. We call the dramas “shows” for the kids, and I think they figure its TV! The dramas were set to English music which was a nice change for us, and were simple skits that depicted the power Jesus gives us to overcome¬† life’s struggles.

And of course the fundraising band came around one more time tonight, just to introduce my parents to the joys of the Barrio. Witnessing it a second night we realized that the timing is no accident. It appears the home owner has to pay the “band” in order for them to stop making all the racket.
