So I was able to redeem myself today by remembering to take our credit card to the grocery store. For the first time since being here we were able to buy a reasonable amount of groceries as we had both a fridge to store them in and money to buy them with.

Just in case we’ve given you the impression that life is a real struggle here and we don’t have any fun, here is our list of things we LOVE about living where we are right now:

After a few weeks in a much simpler environment, these are some of the things we’ve noticed that we used to take for granted:

It’s almost a routine here on Sundays now. Their was the usual noisy baseball so we escaped to the kids park and a soccer game. When we first arrived at the kids park it was quiet, but they quickly realized this and cranked up some kids music for us.

Before I go on I should update you on the noise situation. Since the Christmas fireworks on Dec 2, things have actually been a little quieter around here. The evening music is typically only from one or two locations and isn’t too loud. Contrary to what we found the first week, the music is often quite nice as it tends to cover up the sound of the dogs, roosters, and motorbikes. Mornings have typically been music free until early afternoon, and the mobile street vendors are down to only a couple per day. But….

We made a quick run up a nearby hill today, hoping to get a good view of the city. Unfortunately we got stopped by some thick bushes only 1/3 of the way up. Guess we’ll have to ask for directions next time.

The problem with getting up lots at night is eventually your body gets completely confused as to what time it is. You lose track of how late/early it is and can’t sleep even when you have the chance. Last night …
