Feb 02: If you can’t beat ‘em

Today we finally got to put our muscles to work helping one of the local TEARS volunteers move to a slightly larger apartment. The weather co-operated by avoiding any rain, and keeping below 30 degrees. I have to confess that by the end Nicole said I looked like I had jumped into a pool with my clothes on.

Workers

It was nice to be able to do something that we really felt was helping someone out, as our language deficiency prevents us from being involved locally as much as we would like.

The Cooks

For dinner we decided to have a large taco dinner, including homemade corn tortillas, and allow a few of the local kids to stay. It seems that when we do this we have the choice to either kick them out, fight with them to keep them settled and out of the kitchen, or… let them cook. Of course, being the lazy one, I let them cook.

The kids picked up on making the tacos really quick and I was happy to step out of the chaos and see what happened. In the end we enjoyed some delicious tacos, some good (albeit young) company, and a major kitchen cleanup. I guess you can’t win ‘em all.
